Peru Montain and Peru Trail

If you are a Mountaineering enthusiast, the Cordillera Blanca accessed via the Huaraz town is the best place for you in Peru. There are a number of peaks that are over 5000 m. If that is not enough, there are 33 others which are 6000m, the highest of them being Huascaran standing tall at 6768m. Cordillera Huayhuash is about 4 hours if you take a bus journey from Huaraz and holds seven summits with heights exceeding 6000m.

Popular among Peru Mountain climbers is the El Misti, a snowcapped volcano dominating the city. You will need about 2 days to complete this climb. Once you are in the company of an experienced guide, your previous experience is not essential. Experienced climbers can consider Ausangate(6384m) and Salkantay (6271m) in Cusco district. But, these are for group activity and need sufficient advance planning. Avid climbers can also consider a membership of South America Explorers. Their club house services in Cusco and Lima would be handy when you are in Peru. We should now take a closer look at some of the important among Peru Mountain.

Cordilera Blanca


If there is a climber’s paradise in Peru, it is Cordillera Blanca. Several tourists who come for the Peru Mountain congregate in this region. Often several summits of 6000m or more can be reached during a two week stay. June to September will be the best season for climbing the Peru Mountain. The conditions can be optimal during July though. Climbers should allow themselves an acclimatization phase of about 4 days to one week. The exact time frame will be influenced by the difficulty level and the height of the mountain. Inexperienced climbers will find Ishinca (5534m) as well as Pisco (5752m) suitable for their expedition. Alpamaya (5957m) is regard the most beautiful among Peru Mountain and is ideal for intermediate climbers. Huascaran (6768m) can be quite a challenge.

The best base for activity related to the above will be Huaraz, the largest town in the region. There are several companies involved with climbing and trekking and can be huge help in planning your expedition. You can also find experienced guides and climbing equipment on rent. Professional and serious climbers should preferably bring in their own equipment.

Arequipa


As you arrive in Arequipa, you will be greeted by the beauty of the conical and snowcapped volcano dominating the skyline. This volcano is suitable even for climbers with little or no experience, but they should be in the company of professionals or an experienced guide. July through September are the best months for an ascent, though the balance of the year should not pose serious problems. Once you are comfortably acclimatized, the ascent and return takes about 2 days. Chachani is another mountain in the region which you can climb with relative ease. The height is 6075m. For those in the early stages of their climbing expeditions, this summit offers the best opportunity to test the 6000m level. Once you are in Arequipa, you will have no shortage of spectacular peaks to climb. Your own physical energy and time can be the limiting factors though.

Cusco


In the Cusco province, exciting climbing is offered by Vilcabamba and Vilcanota. However, inexperienced climbers should be cautious in this region. There are technical difficulties associated with climbing in this region. June to September are the best periods, but the need for a thorough preparation cannot be over emphasized. Once you are in Peru, finding companies to provide you experienced guides or hire out equipment often does not pose a problem.

Peru Trail or Inca Trail Inca Trail or Peru Trail can usually be covered in about 4 days. At sunrise on the 4th day, one can reach the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. This is a moderate trek and suitable for persons with normal levels of fitness. However, this is not to suggest that there are no challenges involved in the trek. Peru Trail rises up to an altitude of 4200 m and it is necessary therefore that you acclimatize yourself adequately before undertaking the trek. A full two days of acclimatization in Cusco is recommended for those arriving from sea level. In the Cusco vicinity, there are several other tourists attractions which can be meaningful occupation for your time during acclimatization.
